YouTube to offer films from major Hollywood Studios
Market sources are saying that Google owned video sharing service YouTube is all set to launch feature films from major Hollywood studios.
The first of the movies can make its debut on the service as early as next month.
An inside source was quoted as saying: “It’s not imminent. But it’s going to happen. I would say you can expect to see it, if all goes well, sometime within the next 30 to 90 days.”
Movie studios do not like the idea of offering full length films on video sharing services. Shorter clips have been made available in the past.
It would be tough for YouTube and the studios to generate enough revenues even through overlay ads inside the clips.
Google has not given out any information. The company did say: “We are in negotiations with a variety of entertainment companies. Our goal is to offer maximum choice for our users, partners, and advertisers.”
