IBM now working on broadband over power lines

US based tech giant IBM is now working on bringing broadband over power lines to rural America.

The company aims to serve millions of customers in the US market through this initiative.

IBM has signed a deal with International Broadband Electric Communications for this venture.

IBM and IBEC would together build and manage this network. They are going to work with electricity cooperatives in seven states for this project.

Broadband over power line technologies have improved in the recent times to support speeds between 512Kbps and 3Mbps.

This is comparable to speeds users get on cheaper DSL connections.
