AMD to skip Netbooks for larger ultraportable notebooks
Microprocessor maker AMD has said that they are not going to cater to the growing netbooks market.
The company is instead focusing their attention on the larger ultraportable notebook segment which is slight larger and more powerful than netbooks.
AMD Yukon platform is targeted at this segment of the market.
AMD said in a statement: “During the past few quarters, there has been a great deal of hype around the ultraportable notebook and mini-notebook markets, because of the small form factor and lightweight profile such devices offer. To capitalize on the growing interest in these form factors, AMD announced new platforms aimed at serving these markets.”
The company clarified: “To be clear, Yukon is targeting ultraportables and not netbooks/mini-notebooks.”
Intel on the other hand has launched their Atom processor powered platform specifically for Netbooks.
