IBM using quad-core Opteron Shanghai processor in new server products
IBM has announced two new blade servers which are powered by the just launched AMD quad-core Opteron Shanghai processors.
AMD claims that this new range of server processors delivers up to 35 percent more performance with up to a 35 percent decrease in power consumption.
The company added that these processors would suit the need of data centers. They are also optimized for Virtualization.
Randy Allen, senior vice president at AMD’s Computing Solutions Group had this to say on their latest processor range: “This enhanced AMD Opteron processor represents the most dramatic performance and performance-per-watt increases for AMD products since the introduction of the world’s first x86 dual-core processors by AMD nearly four years ago.”
IBM Bladecenter LS42 and LS22 are the two new server products powered by this new processor.
