Volkswagen Jetta TDI wins the Green Car of the Year award
German automaker Volkswagen has won the Green Car of the Year award for their Volkswagen Jetta TDI model.
This award was given to the company at the ongoing Los Angeles auto show.
This is incidentally the first time that this award was given to a diesel-powered car.
Ron Cogan, editor of Green Car Journal spoke about awarding VW’s model: “This signals that clean diesel has arrived”.
Diesel cars are generally considered to be more polluting compared to their petrol equivalent. But they are more fuel efficient and hence preferred by customers.
But improvements in technology are making it possible for automakers to launch less polluting diesel cars.
