Blackberry, Treo has a higher failure rate compared to Apple iPhone!

California-based SquareTrade has reported in a study that Research in Motion’s Blackberry smartphones are more likely to fail compared to Apple iPhone during the first year of ownership.

The company specializes in extended warranties for electronics and appliances.

The report took into consideration 15,000 new phones manufactured by Apple Inc., Research in Motion and Palm Inc.

The report stated that iPhone has a failure rate of 5.6% in its first year of ownership, compared with 11.9% for BlackBerrys and 16.2% for the Treo.

The company stated that the study is totally independent as they have no relation to any of the involved parties.

Apple iPhone is relatively new compared to Blackberry and Treo smartphones. The report stated: “Without more data, it’s impossible to definitively know if iPhone owners are at a bigger risk for handset malfunctions than Blackberry and Treo owners after the manufacturer’s warranty has elapsed. Regardless, both models forecast iPhones with a significantly lower failure rate at the end of 24 months of ownership. From this analysis, we can infer that iPhones are more reliable handsets than the other two smart phone models.”
