Apple iPhone 3G ad banned in UK for misleading consumers

The Advertising Standards Authority has banned one of the video advertisements released by Apple connected to their iPhone 3G mobile device.

ASA said in a statement that the advertisement exaggerates the phone’s speed and is misleading.

They received several complaints from the customers who bought the iPhone and could not replicate the results of the ads.

ASA noted that the ad highlighted the fact that the browsing speeds on the 3G iPhone are really fast but the customers noted otherwise.

Apple responded by saying that the claim is a comparison between the 3G and 2G iPhone models and the performance would vary as per the location.

ASA stated that the advertising led to customer belief that the speeds on the device would match the speeds shown in the advertisements.
