Apple now licensing Mini DisplayPort without any charge

Apple recently updated their notebook range to feature a brand new Mini DisplayPort video interface.

They are the only company currently using this interface on their computers. And Apple wants to change that so that their customers can use third party displays on their MacBooks.

Apple is now licensing the technology without any charge.

This standard is promoted by the Video Electronics Standards Association. It is designed to replace the current standard Digital Visual Interface.

Apple states that this format offers greater bandwidth which can enable users to work with 30-inch screens with a notebook.

Apple MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are currently shipping with this new port. They are likely to add this to other Apple Computers as well in the future.
