Google abandoned Yahoo deal to avoid antitrust suit from US DoJ

More details are now available on the Google’s decision to abandon the deal they had announced with Yahoo.

Sources say that the search engine giant was just in time to announce their decision as the US Department of Justice was all set to file an antitrust suit against them.

Lawyer Sandy Litvack revealed in a statement that the government had a suit ready and was just three hours away from filing it.

He said: “We were going to file the complaint at a certain time during the day. We told them we were going to file the complaint at that time of day. Three hours before, they told us they were abandoning the agreement.”

Google had earlier this year announced this deal with Yahoo which would have enabled them to deliver ads on some search result pages in USA and Canada. The deal was designed to help Yahoo gain additional revenues so that they could avoid an acquisition from Microsoft.
