AT&T and T-Mobile barred from saying voicemail systems are safe
US based telecom companies AT&T and T-Mobile have now been barred from claiming that their voicemail systems are safe.
They have agreed to permanent injunctions filed in a Los Angeles court.
Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office said in a statement that the companies were practically lying in their advertising claiming that these systems were safe.
Research has found out that it is rather easy to hack into these systems and temper with data.
It added: “Hacking into voicemail allowed messages to be changed or erased. Important information could be removed from the voicemail and phony information could be inserted. Imagine the havoc that could result.”
SpoofCard is one of the applications that can be used to hack into voicemail accounts.
The legal settlements would require the two companies to pay damages. AT&T would be paying US$59,300 in penalties; T-Mobile will pay $25,000.
