ESPN launches beta website with more ad space (!?)
ESPN sports network has launched a new beta edition of their website which would replace their primary website in a couple of days.
This new version of the ESPN site is designed to be simpler to make the visitor comfortable.
The aim is to retain the interest of the web user so that they can generate more revenues from online advertising.
John Skipper, ESPN chief content officer said in a statement: “You don’t care how many people tune in once a month… what you care about is how many people came, how long they stayed and how well engaged they were. We think that is a compelling ad proposition to take to advertisers — that we have the most engaged users.”
ESPN is facing declining revenues from their television programming and are aiming to enhance the revenues generated from the web.
