Yahoo to purge data from search queries after 90 days
Search engine company Yahoo has announced that they are now going to purge user data collected from search queries after a period of three months.
With this, they now have the shortest data retention policy amongst the top search engine companies in the world.
Yahoo said that they would now anonymize the computer addresses of its users within three months in most cases.
This was earlier done after a period of 13 months.
Ari Schwartz, vice president at the Center for Democracy and Technology spoke about the decision taken by Yahoo: “Google first went to 18 months and started this competition.”
Microsoft also had recently stated that they would reduce the data retention period if their rival companies do so.
