Foxit Software to launch eSlick eBook reader
Foxit Software has announced that they are entering the not so competitive eBook reader market with their product named eSlick.
The company plans to sell this electronic book reader for $229 initially. It would go on sale from the company’s website next month.
The prices would go up to $259 at a later stage.
This would still make it a cheaper deal compared to similar ebook readers from Amazon and Sony.
eSlick ebook reader is about the size of a medium paperback. It is 0.4 inches thin making it a handy product for any user.
It features a 6-inch, 600-by-800-pixel “electronic paper” screen. They are using the screen from the same company which supplies the screens for Amazon Kindle.
eSlick would come loaded with 128MB of internal memory. It would feature USB for data transfer and SD Card slot for expanded storage. Foxit would deliver the device with a 1GB card.
The company claims that the device is very efficient. It would last 8,000 page turns between recharges. Owners would be able to recharge it through USB (using a computer) or an AC Adapter which is included in the package.
The device comes powered with Linux operating system.
It would be compatible with PDF and Text files. The company would ship the device with a file conversion software to convert files to PDF format.
Another interesting feature of the device is that it supports MP3 playback. The company has included a headphones port. The package would also include a set of headphones!
It remains to be seen whether this device can take on the products from more popular companies like Amazon and Sony.
