The New York Times: Now blocked in China!

The New York Times has reported that the Chinese government has blocked access to their website in the country.

The newspaper company said that visitors from Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou were not able to connect to their service yesterday.

Users are unable to access the NYT website unless they use a proxy based service.

The Chinese official said that they are well within their rights to block access to websites which feature content illegal under Chinese law.

China has one of the largest base of web users who are closely monitored. It’s not unusual to hear such reports of blocks on popular online destinations.
