Google Street View criticized in Japan over privacy issues
Google Street View feature is being criticized in Japan over privacy issues.
A group of Japanese journalists, professors and lawyers have demanded that Google should remove the images taken on the roads in the various cities in the country.
The search engine giant is currently providing images from 12 major cities in Japan.
The protesters have sent a petition to Google’s Japanese subsidiary. They claim that this feature “constitutes violent infringement on citizens’ privacy by photographing residential areas, including community roads, and publishing their images without the consent of communities and citizens.”
Tokyo and Osaka municipalities have also appealed to the Japanese government demanding that they take action against the US based company.
Google Japan has already said that they are working on blurring people’s faces in these images. They are also accepting requests for image removal from the service.
