Google gifting G1 mobile device to employees as holiday bonanza?

Market sources are claiming that the search engine giant Google is gifting G1 mobile devices to their employees this holiday season.

This is probably to cut costs as the company probably wants to avoid giving out cash during these tough economic times.

Sources say that as many as 85 percent of workers will get a handset powered by Google’s Android operating system as a holiday gift.

The company had gifted out cash last year during the holidays.

Google Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt had recently mentioned that the company is taking some steps to cut costs.

An inside memo from the company had this to say: “The current economic crisis requires us to be more conservative about how we spend our money.”

However, the G1 mobile device powered by Google Android mobile operating system would not work in several countries including Brazil, Russia, India and China.

Employees here are expected to get cash instead.
