Twitter continues to gain users at astonishing rate

Micro-Blogging service Twitter is one of those web based utilities which have seen many new rivals but it continues to flourish.

It is also one of the few services which continues to operate without any kind of advertising or subscription fees.

Twitter is gaining popularity at an astonishing rate. Market reports state that the service gets 5,000 to 10,000 new accounts a day.

Majority of its users at this point of time joined the service in 2008.

Internet marketing company HubSpot further states that 20 percent of the entire user base have joined Twitter in the last 2 months.

The report released by the company added: “A year ago Twitter was a relatively small community of techies and Web 2.0 geeks, now it is going mainstream. Twitter is not only being talked about and used by a lot more people, but more and more marketing industry events and conferences are using Twitter as a standard means of communication.”

Twitter showed its power during the US presidential elections. It is also heavily used by the users during major news events. News media entities have in fact used the content posted by Twitter users during events like the terror attacks in Mumbai.
