Freescale Semiconductor launches cheap processor for Netbooks
Freescale Semiconductor is aiming to become the latest provider of microprocessors for netbooks which have become very popular in the recent times.
Intel already has their Intel Atom microprocessor platform for this new generation of computing devices.
Now Freescale Semiconductor has announced the launch of new ARM-based chip is from its i.MX line.
The company claims that this chip can power a netbook with an 8.9-inch display. It can give as much as eight hours of battery life.
This chip is designed for use with a version of the Ubuntu Linux OS.
Freescale said that this processor is going to be cheap enough to be incorporated in netbooks that can be priced below USD 200.
