Apple could own 40% of the world’s smartphone market in like 4 years!

Market research company Generator Research has said in a report that they believe Apple could become one of the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world.

The report said that the iPhone maker could achieve a 40% market share in this segment of the market by 2013.

This could very well mean that Nokia would no longer be the top player in the smartphone market.

Generator’s head of research Andrew Sheehy spoke about their research paper: “Our analysis is that the iPhone and App Store constitute a vertical platform for the delivery of advanced mobile services that will be developed in a similar manner to how Apple developed its digital music platform, which included the iPod and the iTunes Music Store. The new rule #1 is that you need a fully-integrated service development platform that has a rich API which is open to third party developers on favorable commercial terms. Right now, Apple has the best platform and the best-looking forward roadmap.”

The report said that Nokia could end up with just 20% market share by 2013 if the current situation prevails.
