AT&T being criticized for American Idol related text spam

AT&T is a sponsor of the popular television show American Idol.

The US based telecom giant is being criticized on how they SMSed a large number of their subscribers to watch the season premiere of “American Idol” which debuted earlier this week.

AT&T claims that they only targeted the heavy users of their text services in addition to the users who had earlier voted for contestants on the show through their mobile services.

However, a lot of AT&T subscribers have stated that they were annoyed with the spam texts sent to them by the company. Some of these people confirmed that they had never voted for any contestant on the show before.

The only good thing is that the company did not charge for these messages.
