Apple wins a patent for multi-touch technology

Apple has won a crucial patent for multi-touch technology that might help it take on rival mobile phone makers.

Apple iPhone was one of the first devices to make use of this technology. It is now available on several new devices in the market.

Palm Pre uses a similar technology and Apple has hinted that they might sue the rival companies which infringe on their patented technologies.

It remains to be seen what Apple does with their newly gained patents.

Apple chief operating officer Tim Cook had stated about the competition: “We think competition is good. We are ready to suit up and go against anyone. However, we will not stand for having our IP ripped off and will use whatever weapons at our disposal.”

The company is also using multi-touch technology in their latest generation notebook models.
