Eircom to disconnect pirate web users
Irish ISP Eircom has announced that they have signed a deal with four major record companies as part of a settlement.
They would now disconnect their customers who are found to be part of the online piracy.
Market sources say that this is the first deal of its kind signed between the media companies and an internet service provider.
But it is unlikely to be the last.
EMI, Sony, Universal and Warner had asked them to install a software on their network to detect the “fingerprint” of copyrighted music files being sent on its network.
Eircom refused the offer stating that it could interfere with the stability of their network and services.
