Sakshat: Reports of India’s $10 laptop are out again
India is all set to get its own cheap laptop through an initiative National Mission on Education which is being launched through Information and Communication Technology.
This could very well be an answer to the OLPC project which was formed to develop a USD 100 laptop.
The USD 10 laptop has been developed by a group which includes Vellore Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Science, IIT and Semiconductor Complex.
A representative of the group said: “At this stage, the price is working out to be $20 but with mass production it is bound to come down.”
This device is likely to be called Sakshat.
The government is collaborating with Macmillan, Tata McGraw Hill, Prentice-Hall and Vikas Publishing for content on the device.
