Iran launches its first domestically made satellite

Iran has announced that they have now launched their first domestically made satellite.

Iran said that this satellite is designed for peaceful purposes only and it has no military connections.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said in a statement: “Iran’s satellite technology is for purely peaceful purposes and to meet the needs of the country.”

He added: “Satellites are a very essential means of gathering environmental data, climate data … and lots of necessary information that we need for technological, agricultural and economic projects”.

The satellite is named Omid and it marks the 30th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic revolution.
