Google wants to be out of AOL shareholding
Search engine giant Google is now planning to move out of their shareholding in AOL.
The company had invested in AOL three years ago.
Time Warner said that they have received a request from Google that they want to exercise its “demand registration statement” on the AOL stake.
A company representative said: “We’re reviewing what we received and we’re evaluating our options.”
Google had invested in AOL to continue their search advertising deal to avoid losing that to rival company Microsoft.
The value of that deal has come down considerably in the recent years and Google wants to get out of AOL.
Collins Stewart analyst Thomas Eagan spoke about the new developments at AOL: “When a new AOL search deal comes up this year we would not be surprised if AOL starts talking to other providers like Microsoft’s MSN.”
