RIM has now sold more than 50 million Blackberry devices

Research In Motion has announced that they have now sold more than 50 million units of Blackberry smartphones since launch.

They achieved this feet almost ten years after the launch of the first device in January 1999.

The company has a huge fan base that includes the current US President Barack Obama.

RIM said that they currently have a user base of 21 million subscribers. These users transfer an estimated three petabytes of data over the handsets each month.

The company has two potent new models in the market Blackberry Bold and Blackberry Storm.

However, the market scenario is tougher than ever. With the entry of Google Android and Apple iPhone, RIM needs to be more innovative with their future models to stay competitive.
