Apple working on a HDTV with iTunes and Apple TV built in?
Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray has predicted that Apple is soon going to launch their own Apple branded television sets that would feature DVR functionality in addition to inbuilt support for Apple TV and iTunes.
He said in a report: We expect Apple to design a connected television over the next two years (launching in 2011) with DVR functionality built in. These recorded shows could then sync with Macs, iPhones and iPods over a wireless network. The device would push Apple further into the digital living room with interactive TV, music, movie, and gaming features. With its iTunes ecosystem, Apple could develop a unique TV without any set-top-boxes or devices attached.
Apple has a product named Apple TV which works as a media station for an existing television set. It allows the user to stream content from their computer onto their television sets.
It makes sense for Apple to launch their own television sets with all these features inbuilt into it.
However, looking at the thin margins in the television segment, Apple might really stay away from it for the time being.
