Intel Atom N280 processor now shipping to OEM

US based microprocessor industry giant Intel has stated that they are now shipping their new Atom N280 processor to personal computer manufacturers.

This processor is designed for netbooks and other portable computing devices.

The company said that this processor would enable the netbook manufacturers to offer faster and more capable machines.

Intel said that the new processor when used with their new chipset would enable the netbooks to play high definition media.

Intel’s GN40 chipset comes loaded with a hardware-based high-definition video decoder which is capable of handling 720p HD video content.

Incidentally, Nvidia is already shipping their Ion platform for netbooks which supports high definition 1080p content.
