Amazon launches Kindle 2
Amazon has officially launched their updated edition of Kindle ebook reader.
The new edition is appropriately named Kindle 2. No surprises there.
The spy photos were indeed correct. The Kindle 2 is exactly the same edition.
Jeff Bezos showcased the new edition at a press event currently undergoing in New York’s Morgan Library and Museum.
Amazon Kindle 2 is just 0.36-inches thick. This makes it thinner than the Apple iPhone!
It now features 7 times the storage capacity of the first generation device.
One of the new features in this edition is Whispersync which is designed to sync the reading position between multiple devices.
Amazon has added a very useful text-to-speech feature which can be used to listen to any document on the device.
Amazon claims that the battery on the new edition now lasts 25% longer. The device can store up to 1500 books.
Stephen King was the guest at the launch event. He talked about his experiencing using the device and also read one of his own works from the Kindle.
Amazon Kindle 2 would retail for $359. Amazon said that it is now available on pre-order and would ship from February 24.
The company has a special offer for the first generation Kindle owners. If they order today, they get priority on the shipping list.
