Microsoft gains 10,000 US patent

US based software giant Microsoft has stated that they have now received their 10,000th US patent.

The milestone patent was related to surface computing technology.

Microsoft had taken claims on around 2000 patents last year. They were the fourth on the US top patent gainers list for 2008.

The company spend an astounding USD 8 billion on research and development every year.

Bart Eppenauer, chief patent counsel for Microsoft had this to say on the achievement: “Most technology companies, Microsoft included, have been increasing their emphasis on IP in recent years, trying to derive greater business value from their intellectual assets.”
