Apple behind missing multi-touch on Google Android?

Online sources are quoting a member of Google Android team as claiming that Apple got Google to not include multi-touch support in the Android powered G1 mobile phone.

Experts claim that the display on the screen can very well support the technology made popular by the Apple iPhone.

But Google seems to have avoided incorporating it for the time being.

One of the reasons could be the multi-touch related patents owned by Apple which could have caused major issues for Google legally.

Another reason could be that Google wanted to stay on good terms with Apple. Google is one of the partners of Apple in the iPhone project. They provide the customized Google Maps and YouTube applications on the device.

Market analyst Michael Gartenberg spoke about the reports: “Apple appears to have several patents for the concept of multi-touch as it relates to phones. But it’s also important to note that while Apple competes with Google to some extent in this space, Google is also an important partner for Apple on the iPhone and elsewhere.”

However, Google is not expected to remain behind on the technology and they are probably going to incorporate it in the future models through some way or the other.
