Intel to spend $7 billion on upgrading factories
US based microprocessor industry giant Intel has announced that they would be investing $7 billion to upgrade their factories in USA.
These funds would be utilized in the coming two years as the company prepares for future innovations in the processor industry.
This announcement was made by Intel CEO Paul Otellini at a speech in Washington. He said that the semiconductor industry has to continue investing even though the economy is in a recession.
The company admitted that this is the heaviest investment made by them on a transition to new manufacturing technology.
Intel would be using these funds to enable their factories to manufacture chips using the 32-nanometer technology.
The company however said that this investment is unlikely to create many jobs. They already have the skilled manpower required for the new technology implementation.
