Nokia Ovi Store could enter Indian market this year

World’s leading mobile phone maker Nokia has announced that they would launch their Ovi digital store in the Indian market this year.

The company added: “Nokia will launch its online music-service priced at few hundred rupees depending on the subscription package, where users can access the paid music content for up to a year.”

Nokia aims to offer media services at a cheaper price while mobile gaming applications would be offered at a premium.

The company claims that they aim to reach about 50 million people with the launch of this digital store in May this year.

Nokia also plans to offer a mobile emailing service to their customers for free.

Nokia said: “But if users want integrated messaging solutions and other communication software built along with email then we will have a Nokia email exchange that will be cheaper than the similar existing services. Nokia intends to take the email solutions to non-metros, and hence pricing will be very important to promote this service.”

Vineet Taneja, country manager (GTM) Nokia added: “Our services won’t be limited to high end, expensive devices. We will also look to broaden the range to fit all sizes and pockets.”

Nokia could succeed in the Indian market as there is little to no competition here. Apple iTunes is available in India but it does not offer music or video files. Only the Apple App Store component is available.
