TSMC to help Intel expand support for Intel Atom

Intel Atom is currently the most popular processor platform for the netbooks.

However, it might soon start appearing in consumer electronics items.

Intel is collaborating for this initiative with TSMC which is the world’s largest manufacturer of custom-built chips.

This is incidentally the first time Intel would allow another company to manufacture chips based on their core technology.

Intel said that they along with TSMC would combine the circuitry of the ultra low-wattage Atom chip with the circuitry from other TSMC processors to create a new architecture.

This would allow them to offer Atom based processors for a variety of electronic devices.
