Asustek has announced that later this year they would launch a new variant of EEE PC which would feature inbuilt 3G support for fast wireless internet on the move.

This device could be launched in the European market by September this year.

Elitegroup Computer Systems is one company which has already launched such a product: G10IL mini-netbook.

These 3G enabled laptops are likely to come bundled with packages so as to subsidize the cost of the hardware supplied.

This would be similar to how mobiles are sold in the market currently. Asustek said that the prices of the models would depend upon the service contracts.

Google told to release YouTube records to Viacom

Search engine giant Google has been ordered by a US based court to provide data related to video-viewing habits of YouTube users to Viacom.

This ruling has been criticized by privacy groups. Google responded in a statement: “We are disappointed the court granted Viacom’s overreaching demand for viewing history.”

Viacom and Google are fighting a legal battle over uploads of copyrighted videos on the popular video sharing service.

Viacom wanted these records to show that videos containing copyrighted media were more popular than user generated material.

Electronic Frontier Foundation attorney Kurt Opsahl spoke about this ruling: “The court’s erroneous ruling is a set-back to privacy rights and will allow Viacom to see what you are watching on YouTube. We urge Viacom to back off this overbroad request and Google to take all steps necessary to challenge this order and protect the rights of its users.”

Google links to Privacy Policy page from homepage

Search engine giant Google has made a change on their homepage and it is big news.

The new addition on the Google homepage is a link to their privacy policy.

The company was under pressure from several privacy groups to add this link on the homepage of the site.

This is required by law in some regions of USA.

Google has made the change by adding a Privacy link in the footer linking to their privacy information pages.

Incidentally, this word replaces Google after the Copyright sign which leave the amount of content on the page same.

Apparently, the company wanted to keep the size of the homepage same as before.

Google Vice President of Search Products and User Experience Marissa Mayer spoke about this change: “Larry and Sergey told me we could only add this to the homepage if we took a word away — keeping the ‘weight’ of the homepage unchanged at 28.”

Apple has lowered the price of their MacBook Air notebook model if it is ordered with a solid state drive.

Customers were earlier required to pay a $999 premium for the SSD Drive. This price is now down to $599.

Apple has also reduced the price of another upgrade… The processor upgrade from 1.6GHz to 1.8GHz is now costing $200 instead of $300.

SSD drives are very rare on notebooks though the market is expecting. This is going to further reduce the cost of these drives for the customers in the coming years.
